Quilted Pillows a la Walking Foot
I’ve been a little quiet for the last week or so, and it’s because I was putting the finishing touches on a special project for Sew Mama Sew.
Remember this little tease– textured cotton and 12wt Aurifil?
A little more than a month ago I had pitched a tutorial to the lovely Kristin and Beth on creative walking foot technique, and we started working together. I have loved reading SMS ever since I started quilting and was so excited to be contributing to the site.
As I was working on my tutorial an email arrived in my inbox the week before my deadline. One of the quilting rockstars I most admire, Jacquie Gehring, was releasing her new Craftsy class, Creative Walking Foot Quilting. I’m sure that these things happen all the time in the quilting world– I mean, at the end of the day there are only so many tips and tricks– but I was afraid that I might look like a copycat (I mean, seriously, who wouldn’t want to quilt like Jacquie Gehring). The timing was unbelievable.
One of my many amazing quilting friends (quilty people are the best) had an awesome spin on it– it must be a trend! Not everyone can be a free motion master and so many of the walking foot techniques give a fresh, modern look. So I decided to make it less about technique and more about this project. My favorite way to learn and practice quilting is on pillows, so I made some quilted pillows with my walking foot and showed you how I did it.
Check it out over at Sew Mama Sew!
Don’t worry! You’re spot on and have your finger on the pulse of the quilting community! We all need to hear more than one perspective on a particular technique or idea. I look forward to checking out your SMS project! I would love to try my hand at those pillows. Well done!
These are so beautiful! You managed to make a boring pillow an amazing work of art. Love this technique!
That is kind of a bummer, but at the same time you’re thinking on the same wavelength of one of the greats, ya know? So that is awesome, and I’m sure people interested in the technique will like seeing both takes on it. Your pillows are awesome, I’m sure lots of people will enjoy the tutorial!
Thanks so much Stephanie! I have always been an early adopter… 😉 LOVE your swap idea, BTW.
Love YOU! Thanks, lady. Next time, prints!
I’m gonna use that. “I’m on the same wavelength as the greats.” Hm, sounds different coming from me. Thanks so much, Renee. I am overdue for a read on your blog!
Congrats, Mel! Your tutorial was super clear and the pictures were great. Beautiful pillows!
Thanks so much Jess! It’s really nice to hear that.
