WIP Wednesday 9.25.13
It’s been a long time since I’ve been focused enough and had WIPs to show off on a Wednesday.
Today, I made a sample quilt top for my new session of Beginning Quilting at Rock Paper Scissors. I was using a charm pack of Comma and 3/4 yard of Kona Bone. It was a real design challenge because the charm pack had such a range of saturation, print and color, but the plus signs definitely had the most impact.
I placed the low-volume prints in random-seeming locations, all to teach and demonstrate the art of choosing and placing fabric. When clumped together in their own plus sign, the black and white prints read as a cross, but the orange on white circles near the green plus reads as white.
My other WIP is from a paper piecing class I took on Sunday from Betsy Vinegrad, a fellow NJMQG member. She makes some amazing paper pieced quilts and has won awards at quilt shows. She showed me how to follow a numbered pattern, and I’m so enamored with the results. I’m definitely going to turn this piece into something special.
Also, don’t forget, the East West giveaway from Cloud9 and Rock Paper Scissors is in less than two days!
I like the plus quilt! I’m planning to make one for my brother when he earns a spot on ski patrol at work (but I’m going to call it a cross quilt for earning his ski patrol cross!)
Love that idea! It’s awesome when you can put a little extra meaning into the design.
Your paper pieced LOVE turned out great. I’m loving that white fabric.
