WIP Wednesday 5.1.13
(After lurking for a little while, I decided to try out a WIP Wednesday. Visit Freshly Pieced to see some other quilters’ works in process.)
I love seeing a quilt come together, which made Monday night’s beginner class at Rock Paper Scissors so fun. Fellow WIP Wednesday quilter Ashley cut some gorgeous brights, someone else is doing low-volume vintage-style patchwork, and there’s modern use of solids and some adorable kid-themed stripes among my students’ work. Next week we piece.
Yesterday I spent some quality time with my Technicolor quilt and my temperamental walking foot. I’m so excited about how the square spirals came out and how quickly they came together.
You can’t really see the quilting from the front, but that’s ok, since it lets the ombre fabric and design speak for themselves. This mostly just looks wrinkled.
The surprise is how the quilting shows on the back.
I can’t wait to see how it crinkles after binding and a wash. It might hide a little of the drag. I’ll definitely be trying designs like this again. Quilting is by far my favorite part of the quilting process.
I can’t wait to see what everyone is up to!
I love the ombre blocks! and the quilting on the back is a bonus! the recipient can use it either side up.
So the front is great but oh my, I ❤ the back with those lovely diagonals!!
Thanks!
I’m so glad you like them! I’m hoping to try some variations on this theme. Really loving angles and negative space right now.
It looks great! I love the ombre blocks.
I love the back of your quilt almost as much as I love the front. Really great use of negative space.
Thank you and thanks for visiting!
Thanks! I’m hoping to play with negative space some more in the near future.
The back of this is STUNNING!! I love how you worked with the ombres. Adding this to my inspiration pile 🙂
Thank you! That is such a wonderful compliment.
I love the boxy spirals! They look great on the front and back!
Thanks!
